CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE
WEEKLY MEMORANDUM

TO:     Mayor MacLean, Councilors and Department Heads
FROM:   Jeffrey Kobrock, City Manager
DATE:   April 27, 2007
RE:     Weekly Memo

Meetings for the Week of May 27, 2007

City Council Budget Workshop May 30, 2007,  6:00 p.m.

City Staff

Police Officer Eric Testerman has been called for deployment to Iraq. Eric leaves June 8 for training and is expected to arrive in Iraq around Labor Day for a yearlong deployment embedded with the Iraqi Police. 9 year old Logan and 7 year old MacKenzie will eagerly await the conclusion of Eric's deployment. Our thoughts and our thanks go with you for the next fifteen months, Eric.

Regional Dispatch

It is real pity that the regional dispatch service has recently become politicized. Ten years of planning and research led to the creation of the service, which has been ably governed by a board of directors for about three years. The current talk of carving out multiple exceptions to consolidation mandates fly in the face of the political reality to find and exploit all reasonable efficiencies in service provision, and are counter to good ol' common sense regarding duplication of effort and investments. As the first (and sole) municipal customer of the service, Gardiner clearly wants this effort as strong and credible as possible.
