CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE

Public Works
We have received a $16,409 reimbursement from FEMA for operations during extreme weather events this past winter. As winter operations exceeded budgeted amounts due to the severity of the winter, this is particularly good news.

The manhole work associated with paving on Rt. 201 is going better than expected. We had originally thought we would need about $30,000 and after the bids came in we expected to pay $28,950. Using some creative problem solving the Public Works staff is actually doing 31 of 38 total manholes, saving $13,175. Previously, raising manholes for a project like this was extremely labor intensive, but using a new method and new materials we will be able to do most of the work “in house”, resulting in a 47% savings! We hope to apply the Rt. 201 experience to Rt. 24 with equally beneficial results.

The Rt. 201 paving project is expected to be finished up within three weeks. July 10 is presently scheduled as the one night of operations, when Bridge Street will be ground and paved.
