RE: Weekly Memo
Meetings for the Week of August 2, 2004
Vacation & Packet Schedule
I will be on vacation from August 2 – 20. During this period of time Chris Paszyc, Chuck Applebee and Pat Gilbert will each share duties as Acting Manager. Molly will always have contact information for the appropriate person. During this period of time the packet will take a vacation too. The next packet will be August 27 in anticipation of a September 2 Council meeting.
Housing
Our Housing program is successful beyond any expectations. Nine months into the process we have committed all the grant funding available to us. Twelve projects have been funded, sixteen are approved (the final four lack funding) and another ten projects determined to be eligible are on a waiting list. Five of the funded projects are underway and two are 50% completed. We have transitioned from a contract Housing Administrator to our full time Community Development Associate Shirar Wilder. All this within the last nine months! What a busy and very productive time it has been.
In addition Shirar has become a certified CDBG Administrator, and is pursuing certification as a Code Enforcement Officer and Plumbing Inspector.
The Maine State Housing Authority’s New Neighbors program has been instituted within the context of our housing program and the Main Street program, the search for new sources of funding is ongoing and implementation of elements of the 2003 Housing Action Plan beyond housing rehabilitation is being pursued. This is clearly a very active area of proactive community development.
