GrowSmart Maine – Brookings Institute Project
The Brookings Institute, a well-respected research organization, has released a very thoughtful and comprehensive look at Maine, “Charting Maine’s Future – An Action Plan for Sustainable Prosperity and Quality Places”. This is a very detailed investigation into Maine’s asset and liabilities for future economic growth. The executive summary is attached.
The annual GrowSmart Summit on Friday October 20 at the Civic Center is an opportunity to learn more about this very important blueprint for a healthy future economy in Maine.
Library
The historic stained glass window is due to be returned to the second floor of the Library soon. The window has been restored by noted local craftspersons Robin Neely and Mark Bagala. A crane will be necessary to replace the window. The New Century grant program funded some of this important restoration.
Regional Rescue Challenges
A discussion has begun about the increased workload of rescue operations throughout the region. Although our call volume and the time necessary to complete a run have increased over time, Augusta is really feeling the pinch. As a result, Augusta may review its relationships with regional partners including those communities who contract for services and others like Gardiner who provide mutual backup.
