Recycling Grant
The Hatch Hill landfill has received an Efficiency in the Delivery of Local Services grant to increase recycling opportunities. As a regional customer of the facility, we strongly supported the grant application. We often hear that residents would like greater recycling opportunities, and recycling will lower long term solid waste costs dramatically.
WWTP Upgrade
Our heavy rain last Thursday (2.5” in a very short period of time) resulted in the “wet weather” mode being activated for the first time at the treatment plant. This is the alternative mode designed to eliminate up to 85% of the combined sewer overflows (CSO) that previously were standard in many wet weather events. Considering the complexity of the wet weather system, the “trial run” went extremely well with no significant problems. Some tweaking is likely to occupy the staff for the near term, but a major milestone has successfully past. This $7.2 million project has been implemented with outstanding success in each aspect, a real tribute to the quality of our small, but dedicated wastewater staff!
