Johnson Hall Renovation Partnership
On Tuesday, November 1 there is an extremely critical presentation of the strategic plan this group has been working on. The final draft will be presented from 6 – 7:30 PM at the Christ Church Parish Hall. Councilors or interested department heads should plan on attending this briefing from the consulting team. This may be a final opportunity for substantive input to this very ambitious plan. A few summary pages from the plan have been included in the packet for background, but the plan itself is still under development. Please RSVP with Molly so we can get a head count for planning purposes.
Waterfront Grant
We have received an offer of $50,000 for the Waterfront Project. This is great news as the project is currently under-funded. The offer is conditional upon National Park Service approval, which is normally expected when the State makes such an award.
New Mills Bridge Public Meeting
On Wednesday, November 2 at 7 PM at City Hall the Maine Department of Transportation is hosting a preliminary meeting to discuss plans for the New Mills Bridge. Since we first received notice of this meeting a week or two ago, I have been trying to ascertain the status of our June discussions with MDOT regarding New Mills Bridge and Rt. 126. I have been unsuccessful to date, although I have been assured I will receive clarification imminently.
You may recall that in June, Dale Doughty discussed with us Rt. 126 repaving, reconstruction, sidewalks, and the bridge. In the end we agreed upon a course of action for all these items; in particular, we agreed the bridge and Rt. 126 reconstruction would be designed from a comprehensive perspective, not as discreet projects to assure pedestrian/bicycle/safety concerns are properly addressed. The announcement of this meeting specifically related to the bridge is troublesome without further background from the Department.
