JOB POSTING
The City of Gardiner, Maine (pop. 5,800) seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Economic Development Director. The successful candidate will have a proven background in sales, and/or municipal economic development, and/or marketing – preferably a combination of all three. We are looking for a “go-getter” who can produce results.
Gardiner has a historic downtown, an ideally-located business park, a new waterfront park, and beautiful small-town living. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with existing businesses to help them remain or expand in Gardiner. He/she will also work to bring businesses to Gardiner by promoting and “selling” our City as a great place to live and do business. This position will need to give particular focus to selling lots in our Libby Hill Business Park, conveniently located just off I-295. As such, a track record of selling business park lots or comparable commercial real estate lots is essential, as is a robust “rolodex” of business contacts. Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are
also a must. Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge of business incentive programs, such as Tax Increment Financing (TIF). The successful candidate must also be able to work with a wide variety of community leaders and groups to market and promote the City while being able to work independently as needed.
The position will be responsible for overseeing the departmental budget as well as the various TIF funds. Therefore, a background in budget preparation and oversight is desired. The position reports directly to the City Manager and oversees one part-time and two full-time positions, as well as various project consultants and seasonal help as needed. Preference will be given to individuals with previous supervisory experience.
Base salary range is $50,000-$58,000 (DOQ), plus a generous commission for lot sales made at our business park (currently $3 million worth of lots available). Health benefits currently 100% employer paid for single, and a 50/50 share of the additional cost for family coverage (BCBS). A modest travel budget will also be provided. Applicants should send cover letter, resume, and references to: Economic Development Director Search, c/o Scott Morelli, City Manager, 6 Church Street, Gardiner, ME 04345, or via email to smorelli@gardinermaine.com.
Review of applications will begin on May 25, 2011 and will continue until the position has been filled.
