The City of Gardiner (pop. 5,800) seeks an experienced and energetic professional to fill the position of Fire Chief & Rescue/Emergency Management Director. This position requires a variety of complex supervisory, professional, administrative and technical planning skills in fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical service, and emergency management.
Desired minimum qualifications:
A) Graduation from a college with an Associate's/Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, or a closely related field, and
B) Ten (10) years of progressive firefighting and emergency medical service experience, three (3) years of which must have been equivalent to fire lieutenant or higher, and
C) EMS licensure, and
D) Completion of the Firefighter II training or equivalent, or
E) An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should possess thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression and prevention procedures, techniques, and equipment; working knowledge of techniques surrounding emergency medical treatment; considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, departmental standard operating procedures and regulations.
The applicant should have the ability to perform work requiring good physical condition and have the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions under pressure. Also, the ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, other local/state/federal agencies, and the general public is a must.
Base salary range is $50,000-$58,000 (DOQ), plus generous health benefits (currently 100% employer paid for single, and a 50/50 share of the additional cost for family coverage).
