Combined Sewer Overflow Project (Updated 2016)

The City of Gardiner is finishing up it’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Master Plan filed with EPA and DEP years ago culminating in several sewer system and treatment works upgrades and expansions eliminating all combined storm water and sewerage discharges to the Kennebec River within a 100 year flood precipitation event. All overflows in the time frame of seasonal disinfection and public use period of May 10 to September 30 of each year. The City will continue efforts to reduce storm water Infiltration and Inflow (I&I) into the system through investigation, location and removal of unknown sources of storm water such as catch basins, residential basement drains, sump pump connections and roof leaders.
