Bartlett Street Sewer Blockages
Notice To Residents of Bartlett Street in South Gardiner
Recently There Have Been Incidences of Sewer Blockages in the Bartlett Street Sewer
********************************
Large quantities of disposable “flushable” wipes such as baby and personal adult use wipes were found to be the cause. While these wipes are in fact “flushable” once out in the street sewers they do not decompose and break down like toilet paper and cause plugs in the lines. Please dispose of these in the trash, not the toilet.
Use of these and other products such as feminine hygiene items, dental floss and even Q-tips can cause expensive damage to not only sewers but equipment in pump stations and the wastewater treatment plant.
Flushing of these items into the public sewer system is expressly forbidden by the city of Gardiner sewer use ordinance and homeowners found to be discharging them can be fined and charged for cleaning and repairs to sewer lines and equipment.
Please do your part in protecting your system by adhering to what we affectionately refer to as the “three p rule” meaning only the “Three P’s” can be flushed down your toilet, being “pee, poop and paper”
