Church Street Road Construction

Limited Access & Partial Road Closures Beginning September 18
Church St Road Work

The City of Gardiner’s Public Works department will begin performing sewer line repairs on Church Street on Monday, September 18, 2023. Over 750 feet of the sewer line in Church Street will need to be dug up and replaced. In order to safely and efficiently perform this major road construction, sections of Church Street will be closed with limited access for local traffic only. The construction work is expected to be complete within two to three weeks.

Construction will begin at the bottom of Church Street hill, where it intersects with Water Street, and is expected to move up the hill in sections as work progresses. In the first few days of construction, Mechanic Street will only be accessible from the western side of downtown Water Street by making a right turn on to a single lane of Church Street. Completing construction for this section of the road quickly is a priority to open the lower end of the street.

Church St Detour MapDetour signs will be in place for vehicle traffic approaching from the east on Route 24 in South Gardiner and wishing to travel south to Route 201 on Brunswick Avenue. Church Street will not be open to through traffic until construction is complete. Access to the properties along Church Street will be maintained for local access only.

This project is managed by Gardiner Public Works director Jon Cameron.
