Douglas Clark Day Declared for January 25, 2024

Mayor Hart and the city council have declared January 25, 2024 as Douglas Clark Day to congratulate the Wastewater Director on his retirement and to extend our sincere appreciation to him for his 27 years of service. Doug's last day will be January 26. Congratulations Doug!

The full proclamation:

WHEREAS Doug Clark served as the City of Gardiner’s first Wastewater Director from 1982 to 1999 and returned to serve from 2014 to 2024; and

WHEREAS Doug Clark worked tirelessly to meet all state and federal clean water mandates, operating one of the most efficient plants in the state and consistently exceeding standards by removing more than 90% of pollutants from the wastewater; and

WHEREAS Doug Clark hired, trained, and mentored many plant operators throughout his career, sharing his deep commitment to protecting our drinking water and keeping the wastewater discharge into the Kennebec River as clean as possible; and

WHEREAS Doug Clark oversaw several important plant upgrades and infrastructure improvement projects including the Northwest Quadrant, Maine Avenue, Combined Sewer Overflow, and the recent Phase 1 plant upgrade projects as well as the Phase 2 plant upgrade plans; and

WHEREAS Director Clark’s kindness and patience with the residents and businesses with sewer issues contributed to making Gardiner a welcoming community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Patricia Hart, along with the City Council, do heartily congratulate Douglas Clark on his retirement and extend our sincere appreciation to him for his 27 years of service. We hereby declare Thursday, January 25, 2024, as Douglas Clark Day in the City.
